Czech Modern Spider Table

CZECH MODERNISM COMES TO LAMBERTVILLE

Fresh inventory from the Czech Republic hits the floor at the People’s Store.

People’s Store dealer Authentics is spotlighting Czech modernism this month with the Spider Table, by Jindrich Halabala, the top furniture designer in Czechoslovakia during the interwar years and after World War II. The table is a striking mix of lines and curves, unassuming yet powerfully proportioned. Halabala designed the table around 1940. It was made at the UP Furniture Works in Brno (Spojené umeleckoprumyslové závody). Other examples of the table have surfaced from time to time, but they’re usually snapped up by European collectors and rarely reach the U.S. The table has its original paper label.unnamed (4)
